Join our park naturalists and EPAC (Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance of Climbers) for an evening of rock climbing and bats! We'll hit the crag for a bit of climbing while exploring the habitats that our bats call home. Participants will also learn about PA bat species and their importance, how to listen for bats, how to use an echometer (a tool used to help ID bat species), and how to take bat population counts.
All experience levels are welcome. Park staff will teach the basics of rock climbing, safety, and Leave No Trace ethics for climbers. Helmets and harnesses are provided. Ages 14 and up are welcome. All those who are under 18 must always be accompanied by an adult, but that adult does not have to climb.
Please wear sturdy, comfortable shoes, long pants or long shorts (most comfy in the harness!), and be sure to bring water.
Accessing the cliff where we will be climbing requires ~2 miles of walking (total) over uneven terrain with significant elevation changes.
- Bathrooms: There is a port-o-john at the parking lot.
- What to Bring: Appropriate footwear for hiking is required. A flashlight or headlamp is also suggested.
- Special Considerations: As much as we love our furry friends, this is not a dog-friendly program.
