Ancient Atlatl
149 Main Park Road, Howard, PA 16841-3508
Throughout history humans have relied on many weapons for protection and to gather food. Join the park naturalists as they educate you on a weapon that pre-dates the bow and arrow. The atlatl, a primitive spear thrower, was once one of the most widely used tools during ancient times and is still used today. Join us for this introductory lesson to learn atlatl history, basic techniques and safety. After a short discussion, participants will head outside and have the opportunity to use the atlatl as we take part in a fun competition to see who is the most accurate. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC). The ELC will also be open to the public during this time.
