America 250: Natural Medicines of Colonial America

 

During the Colonial Era, herbal plants were the cornerstone of medicine. Healing plants were used for generations in Europe and bought to the Colonies to be planted in gardens. Native Americans also introduced the Colonists to their own traditional herbal medicines. By the 1770’s, medicinal remedies from the Old World and New World became integrated into both cultures to combat an array of ailments and disease.
