Afterschool Nature Camp: Solar Eclipse

3025 New Holland Road, Reading, PA 19607

An Afterschool Program for ages 6 - 12 presented by the Friends of Nolde Forest.

Come learn more about the upcoming total Solar Eclipse!  At this afterschool camp, students will have time for free play and space games from 4 to 4:30 pm in the Chickadee Nature Discovery Area. Then, we will take a hike to observe the sky from different places.  At 5:00 pm we return to learn about solar eclipses, constellations and phases of the moon while constructing our own solar eclipse viewer.

Campers are encouraged to bring a snack and an empty cereal-type box for viewer construction.

Camp schedule:

  • 4:00 to 4:30 – Unstructured play and games in Chickadee Nature Discovery Area
  • 4:30 to 5:00 – Group hike in the forest
  • 5:00 to 5:30 – McConnell classroom for hands on activities and making your own solar eclipse viewer

Parents are welcome to drop their registered child(ren) off and, if you have other students outside of this age range, we invite you to take a forest hike with them, while we work on a learning about the upcoming solar eclipse!

This program will take place both inside and outside. Please make sure all students are dressed appropriately to spend time outside. Students are encouraged to bring a snack and drink. **Registration is required for ALL participants. Spaces are limited. There is a $10 fee for each student.** Register by clicking the green button in the upper righthand corner. *This program will only be cancelled in case of severe inclement weather. Please check your email to receive any cancellation updates
