A Step Back in Time: Exploring an Old Growth Forest
10 Lower Pine Bottom Rd, Waterville, PA 17776
After the logging industry of the 19th and 20th centuries, the vast forests that blanketed Pennsylvania were decimated and left nothing but bare mountainside and polluted streams. Trees hundreds of years old are hard to find in the state, but Tiadaghton State Forest is lucky to have a few areas of old growth forest still remaining. Come along on a moderate 1-mile hike into the Bark Cabin Natural Area to discover this unique stand of old growth hemlock.
Meet the the Little Pine State Park day-use parking area. We will then drive to the trail on Hackett Road.
Free, family-friendly program for all ages.
