1700s Pioneer Camp

Step back in time by visiting the 1700s historical frontier camp open daily from 10-12 noon and 1-4pm from Wednesday July 4 through Monday, July 9. at Hills Creek State Park's Campground Site #6.
Visitors are welcome to come and go between the open hours to see the skills used. There is a parking lot just prior to the campground on the left.
When the camp is not open to the public, a "closed" sign will be placed in front of it. Learn what life was like. Longknife (Mel Stafford) and Singing Swan (Michele Comes) will be dressed in period clothing and perform activities of daily living using or making items from the 1700s, such as hand dipped candles, Dutch oven cooking, fire starting with flint and steel, spinning, blacksmithing, etc. Displays will include items such as cone sugar, block tea, a bloodletting bowl, toaster, trivets, reflector oven and a fireplace set with tools. Longknife and Singing Swan will explain what they are doing and welcome questions about the camp. Visitors will be able to dress in period clothes and have their pictures taken with their cameras or cell phones. In the evening, the camp will be lit by candles. Join Longknife to enjoy the campfire and listen to stories about camp life and hunting escapades.
