Join us for a moderately paced, scenic hike along the Delaware Canal towpath in search of several raptor species. On this 3+ mile round trip hike along the flat, level towpath, we will have the chance to observe two Bald Eagle nests that are within a mile of each other along the river!

Bring water and a snack that you can eat while hiking. There will be ~10 pairs of binoculars to borrow or BYOB (binoculars!).

Program will be cancelled/postponed in the event of inclement weather or hazardous driving/trail conditions.

Join a state park naturalist for a stroll along the towpath to listen for the sounds of spring -- perhaps we'll hear a chorus of Spring Peepers or the song of a Red-winged Blackbird! This walk will be out-and-back at a moderate pace on a flat, level path; total distance covered will be 2-3 miles.

Please wear sturdy footwear & bring water. We will be back in the parking lot right around sunset, so no need for a flashlight/headlamp. There are no restrooms at this location.

Throughout many cultures around the world, the tree has always been a powerful symbol of family, wisdom, and connection. This weekend before St. Patrick’s Day, join a state park naturalist on a hike at High Rocks, while we discuss the trees local to the area, a bit about the role of trees in Irish heritage, and folklore from around the world on our arboreal neighbors.

For this hike, we will be traveling roughly 3 miles on rocky, sometimes steep and uneven terrain. Please dress in layers for the weather and appropriate footwear for hiking. Be sure to bring water.

Have you ever thought about how terrariums are just itty bitty ecosystems? Join Miss Sara from EAPL and Miss Annastasia from DCNR for a fun evening of science and crafts! You’ll learn all about what makes an ecosystem function as you make a terrarium to take home and nurture. Don’t forget to bring your green thumbs!

Ice is melting and spring is just around the corner! Celebrate with a state park naturalist and join us at Ringing Rocks Trailhead! We will take a scenic hike and look for early signs of spring. About 10 pairs of binoculars will be available to borrow.

This hike will be about 3.5 miles with significant elevation changes and over uneven terrain. We will be hiking at a moderate pace. Wear sturdy hiking shoes/boots and dress in warm layers for the early spring weather. There is no restroom on site; however, there is a porta-John roughly 2 miles down the trail once we arrive at Ringing Rocks County Park.

This program may be modified or cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

As winter fades away and the ice melts, we are sometimes left with a whole new landscape. Join a state park naturalist at Tohickon Valley Park for a roughly 3-mile hike while we talk about the post-Ice Age processes that helped shape the Tohickon Gorge. As we make our way down the trail, we will also stop to view the white-water conditions present for this weekend.

This hike will be on rocky, sometimes steep terrain, and will cover around 3 miles. Please dress in layers and wear shoes/boots appropriate for hiking. Be sure to bring water and snacks. ***Meeting location: Giving Pond Recreation Area, 1125 River Rd. (PA-32), Upper Black Eddy, PA 18972***

Join us at Giving Pond Recreation Area as we continue to tackle some of the most invasive plants at this location: vines! We will be working to cut back Oriental Bittersweet, Japanese Honeysuckle, Mile-a-minute, and Porcelain Berry.

Gloves and hand tools will be provided. However, if you have hand tools such as loppers, pruners, and pruning saws feel free to bring them along (please no chainsaws or other powered tools).

Remember to dress warmly in non-cotton layers. Boots are suggested due to possible muddy conditions.

***Meeting location: Delaware Canal State Park Office, 11 Lodi Hill Rd., Upper Black Eddy, PA***

Come join us on this moderately paced ~4 mile towpath trek to watch the sun set & the full "pink" moon rise in the east. We will listen for owls & keep an eye out for other crepuscular critters while learning about the history of the Delaware Canal.

After meeting at the park office, we will walk south along the towpath to the only covered bridge that remains along the canal in the charming hamlet of Uhlerstown. We will walk across the bridge to see some of the well-kept, historic buildings then turn around and head back to the office.

Please bring water, wear sturdy shoes & bring a flashlight or headlamp in case of cloud cover.

Program will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather or hazardous driving conditions.
