We had an awesome time on the First Day Hike at Cowans Gap! The volunteers and guides were very kind and knowledgeable! Thank you to everyone who made the event possible!
Kids had fun! They especially liked releasing the butterflies!
Loved it. Mr. George told some great stories and the kids loved making smores.
One of the best things I did this summer! Awesome time awesome tour guide.
Great day, very rewarding to help out.
A good trip, however the leader had no record of our pre-registration when we arrived. The weather for the evening was perfect and it was a good, but albeit very brief trip of less than an hour on the water. Somewhere between "meh" and "It was great".
I began visiting Cowans Gap in 1956 @ the age of 9. My family rented a cabin for a week at a time at least once a year and weekends probably 3-4 times a year, which included Thanksgiving weekend. Nothing will ever replace those memories. It had been a long time (1964) since I had been there but I told my wife about my trips there and all the fond memories I had. In 1992 my wife and I visited my parents who had relocated from Philadelphia to Saxton. My wife told my mother of my stories and memories and Mom quietly told my Dad. So we went to visit the next day. Upon entering the park from Burnt Cabins we parked by the dam and walked across the dam. Many memories flooded my brain and my wife understood the peace I had by way of the incredible views. The sand beach; the up-welling springs and their cold spots; the concession and boat rental bring back more memories. Although the park had changed (loss of 3 "lake side cabins (with indoor running water)) and the "Honeymooners cabin" (no electricity) by the camping area, this park will never be replaced by any other park as #1.

This was a phenomenal event! I learned so much about the president. As an historian, I can say that this event was not only informative, but presented in such an interesting way. This was so well researched! It is so nice to have access to free and informational events like this. The amphitheater looks over the beautiful water and mountain. It was fun learning while looking at such a beautiful background! Highly recommend!
