Hands-On-Heritage Adult Learning Series

In each of these evening programs, we will learn some local history, try our hand at some seasonal heritage skills and take something home to share with our families.

Tyler State Park is again partnering with Thankful Sage Farm School to bring you Hands-On Heritage, an opportunity to learn a new/old skill.

Our topics this year:

October: Halloween and Pumpkins

November: An Early Thanksgiving

December:  Christmas in Pennsylvania

February: The Breadbasket

March: Spring Cleaning

May: Liber-Tea

Where: The Classroom at Tyler State Park

Who: Adults (teens ages 16+ are welcome to register with a parent)

In March, we will be discussing tips, customs, and recipes for spring cleaning in an early American home. In lieu of a take home craft, we will be demonstrating how to make lard soap. Each class member will be taking home a bar of Thankful Sage Farm School Soap.

March 10: Natural Dyes
This month we'll explore early dye making and discuss easy dyes to make from your home kitchen and garden. We will be using our natural dyes to color eggs that you can display for years to come.

This month we'll explore and discuss the growing industry of tinsmithing and common early uses. As a hands-on activity, we will try our hand at punching tin using early Pennsylvania motifs. Materials provided.
