2017 Delaware River Sojourn: Flowing Together
Delaware River Sojourn June 17-23, 2017
The Delaware River Sojourn is an seven-day guided paddling trip on the nationally-designated wild and scenic Delaware River, combining canoeing/kayaking, camping (optional), educational programs, historical interpretation, and more. The Sojourn is designed for people of all ages & experience levels; our guides from the National Canoe Safety Patrol provide paddling guidance & safety instruction. Paddlers may join the entire trip or selected days of their choice. The Sojourn is sanctioned & insured by the American Canoe Association.
The 2017 trip, which is the Sojourn's 23rd annual, is themed Flowing Together and will highlight the Delaware River and the tributary watersheds that make up the Delaware River Basin, as well as the individuals who come together to protect it. Highlights to include:
Daily paddles average about 10 miles, with stops for lunch, educational lessons and swim breaks. Registration fees cover the guided river trip, single or tandem kayak rental (with paddle and life jacket; tandem kayaks come with seats), shuttle/livery transportation to and/or from launch and take-out sites, educational programs, meals, a souvenir T-shirt, and camping sites. Participants may bring their own boats and must bring their own camping equipment. Registration fees are by the day and include up to three meals and one night of camping.
In 2017, the Sojourn and the NPS UPDE are hosting a volunteer river cleanup on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 1PM to 5PM. Volunteers will cleanup a 5-mile section of the Delaware River starting at the Ten Mile River access and ending at Lackawaxen, Pa. Volunteers must pre-register through the Sojourn website. Canoes and equipment will be provided.
The Sojourn's purpose is to heighten awareness of and appreciation for the Delaware River and its watershed, which flows through New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Guided by the philosophy that by getting people out on the water and experiencing it firsthand, they too become its stewards, the Delaware River Sojourn helps protect the river and its environs for present and future generations.
Join the Delaware River Sojourn and experience a fun, recreational adventure, which celebrates family, friends, and the great outdoors! Come out and paddle the Delaware River, the longest un-dammed river east of the Mississippi.
